family therapy

The Family Systems Approach

The Family Systems Approach refers to a form of psychotherapy which views the family as a unit, and works to repair familial dynamics. In viewing the family as an organized whole, this approach holds that each family member’s behavior affects the entire family’s dynamic. Dr. Victoria encourages family members to work together to express their thoughts and feelings, collectively empowering their minds and relieving familial tension or strain.

The family systems approach can be useful in treating many issues, including:

  • Parenting Conflicts
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Parental Divorce or Separation
  • Addiction
  • Family systems dysfunction associated with chronic and acute medical conditions, including trauma

Initial Session

  • A Diagnostic Interview (DI) is completed with parents to gather history, discuss concerns, symptoms, testing, therapy goals, the therapeutic process, and a treatment plan.
  • Review HIPAA forms and confidentiality, policies and procedures, consent for treatment, and fees.
  • Dr. Victoria schedules a follow-up with the family.
